Over 5000 excited Napoli fans turned out in their numbers to see their new Nigerian import, Victor Osimhen in pre-season training in the early hours of Monday morning.
Security details who had strict instructions to allow only 1000 fans into the venue, had a torrid time stopping the surging crowd who shouted Osimhen’s name, many wanted his autograph but were barred because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Covid-19 restrictions have made it impossible to have crowds at match venues, but authorities have decided to allow a manageable number as the country gradually eases the lockdown on sporting activities.
The Super Eagles forward who is expected to lead the lines for the Naples based outfit joined his new teammates for their pre-season trip to Castel di Sangro in Abruzzo after a brief summer break in Lagos.
Napoli has not hidden their intention of getting back among the big boys in Italian football under the guidance of Genarro Gattuso and has decided to start early preparations for the 2020-21 season following their seventh-place finish in the Serie A table last term.
Osimhen joined Napoli on a five-year deal in July after an impressive debut season in Ligue 1 with Lille where he scored 13 goals in 27 appearances; he has promised to follow in the footsteps of club legend, Diego Maradona in taking them to the zenith.
