In the midst of rerun elections and post election violence in some regions in Nigeria, PDP has added another feather to it’s cap as INEC has declared them as final victors in an election that was particularly bloody.

PDP’s Bala Muhammed has been declared the winner of the governorship race in Bauchi State.Mr Bala Mohammed defeated the incumbent Governor Muhammed Abubakar who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Mohammed polled a total of 515,113 votes while the APC polled 500,625.

The Returning officer Professor Kyari Mohammed announced the winner and returned the former FCT Minister Bala Muhammed as the Governor of Bauchi State.

Recall that there was confusion on Monday night at the venue of collation of results for the supplementary election held in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State as overzealous anti-riot police officers threw teargas canisters on party agents and journalists.
The reason for the action which also affected staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, was not clear. But it had fuelled suspicion as agents of the two leading political parties, journalists and INEC personnel discussed the issue amidst cursing and jeers.

Following the election results, Gov Mohammed Abubakar has congratulated Sen Bala Mohammed on his emergence as Governor-elect in the 2019 gubernatorial election.This is contained in a statement signed by press secretary to the governor, Abubakar Al-Sadique and made available to newsmen.

He said,“I wish to sincerely congratulate my brother, Sen Bala on this victory at the polls. I’m glad that in spite of the tensed campaigns we had in Bauchi state, we have been been able to sail through without bloodshed.”

“Let me therefore invite the Governor-elect to join me in working out the process of a peaceful transition.I sincerely thank the entire people of Bauchi state for their support to my administration and urge them to extend the same to the incoming administration.”
