Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte, known for making controversial statements, has said that he was once gay, but has “cured” himself with the help of “beautiful women.”
New York Times reports that he made the statement on Thursday at a speech to a Filipino crowd in Tokyo.
Duterte concluded his event by kissing several women from the audience.
The president, who opposed same-sex unions in the past, now says he supports them.
In Philippines, though, homosexuality is not outlawed, and gay persons have open relationships.
