Grandson Of Ex-Nigeria International Eligible For 2018 MLS Waiver Draft

American-bornmidfielder ofNigerian descentAndrew Wheeler-Omiunu is eligiblefor the 2018 MLSWaiver Draft.Major LeagueSoccer announcedvia their officialwebsite onTuesday the list ofeligible players forthe waiver draft, with the 24-year-old named on theroster.The Waiver Draft includes players who are not eligiblefor Re-Entry or Free Agency and either A) are out ofcontract and have not been issued a Genuine Offer orB) have not had their 2019 options exercised.In the 2018 season, Wheeler-Omiunu made only oneappearance as a substitute for Atlanta United againstMinnesota United on April 1 and played ten games forthe reserve team.Atlanta United declined a contract option on Wheeler-Omiunu and have retained the services of anotherplayer of Nigerian descent in striker Patrick Okonkwo.Wheeler-Omiunu’s father played for the youth team ofNigeria while his grandfather represented the seniornational team, according to the Boston Globe.
